We are looking for a treasurer and a chairperson to join our board!

Stichting Amateur Cities is a Rotterdam-based cultural organization developing multidisciplinary forms of research and publishing on the politics of urban space and technology. It brings together insights from different fields, stimulates imagination, and creates engaging publication formats. At Amateur Cities we set research into action and make ideas public through online and offline publishing, cultural programs, exhibitions, and more. We provide services to governmental organizations, educational institutes, media, and cultural organizations. Founded in 2014, Amateur Cities is led by Ania Molenda and Cristina Ampatzidou — researchers, editors, and curators. We collaborate with institutions across Europe, such as Future Architecture Platform, Institute of Network Cultures Amsterdam, Creative Coding Utrecht, Strelka Institute Moscow, Museum of Contemporary Art Warsaw, and New Generations Madrid.

Amateur Cities is looking for a two new board members, a chairperson and a treasurer, each for a maximum of 2h a week starting on the 1st of December 2023. The board of the foundation, consisting of a chairperson, a secretary and a treasurer is responsible for monitoring and advising on the activities and further development of the organization. It conducts quarterly meetings and works together with the foundation’s director. For both positions Amateur Cities is looking for candidates who are willing to work with a small non-profit organization, which has the ambition to grow and expand its collaborations. Knowledge about the cultural sector and the creative industries is crucial for fulfilling the function, an interest in architecture and urbanism, politics of space, technology or publishing is welcome, but not required.

As the treasurer of Amateur Cities, you will be advising on financial and fiscal matters, but also share your vision on the foundation’s growth and realization of culturally and socially relevant projects and programs. You will supervise the financial balance of the foundation, and suggest funding opportunities, sponsorships, and other business matters.

As the chairperson of Amateur Cities, you will be advising on organizational and governance related matters, but also share your vision on the foundation’s growth and realization of culturally and socially relevant projects and programs. You will supervise the internal and external relationships of the foundation as well as suggest opportunities for expanding its network and better positioning in the cultural sector.

The function as a board member of Amateur Cities is unpaid.
