A field guide to the future of architecture.
The Studio is the second book in the Archifutures series conceived by dpr-barcelona and &beyond collective for The Future Architecture Platform. This volume’s focus is on cutting-edge thinking and wider theoretical questions and themes that underpin the series, from reflections upon what our ideas of the “future” really mean to the changing role of the architecture profession as a whole. It comprises speculative visions, essays, and texts from contributors including Ana Jeinic, Miloš Kosec, Clément Blanchet, Amateur Cities, Liam Young, Something Fantastic, Merve Bedir, Tomaž Pipan, Davide Tommaso Ferrando, Tiago Torres-Campos, and Reinier de Graaf.
If you want to change the world, you need to start with great ideas.
The book features Matters of Debate, a contribution by Cristina Ampatzidou and Ania Molenda of Amateur Cities, which looks back at the personal reasons and theoretical underpinnings of Amateur Cities as a research project. Looking for a more understandable and open debate on the role of the architect as well as the meaning of citizenship and innovation in city-making today Amateur Cities strives to clarify interrelations between disciplines, actions, processes, policies, and ideas that shape contemporary urban development. In this multi-vocal interview, we invited our contributors and collaborators to ask us about our ideas and reflect on our path thus far.
